Apple finally admits wireless chargers are harming new iPhones

LAHORE (Daily Point) — iPhone 15 users have been sharing their worries about encountering problems when using BMW’s in-car wireless charging feature.

Up until now, Apple had not officially addressed these complaints, but it seems this is about to change. According to a report from MacRumors, an internal Apple memo sent to third-party repair providers indicates that a software update is in the works for later this year to resolve the issue. This update is expected to prevent a “small number” of in-car wireless chargers from temporarily disabling iPhone 15 NFC chips.

Apple’s recommendation is clear: until the fix is released, individuals facing this issue should avoid using wireless chargers in their cars. Several users have reported concerns about BMW’s wireless chargers causing disruptions to Apple Pay and the BMW digital key feature. These experiences have been shared on various platforms, including Reddit, Apple’s Support community, and MacRumors’ forums.

Additionally, BMW appears to have acknowledged the problem, with the BMW UK account responding to a complaint by stating that they are collaborating with Apple to investigate the issue.

Given the challenge of determining which specific models are affected, if you own a BMW or a Toyota Supra equipped with a wireless charger, it is advisable to refrain from using it until a solution is implemented.

Apple has assured users that a software fix is on the way later this year, but it may take a month or two before the issue is completely resolved, so patience is advised.

In the past, Apple has addressed issues like overheating and battery drain associated with the new iOS 17 update. Fortunately, the Cupertino giant promptly resolved these problems with the iOS 17.0.3 update earlier this month. The latest update to iOS, iOS 17.1, was released last week to address SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) issues related to the iPhone 12.
