(Daily Point) — Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq voiced his concerns on Tuesday, asserting that the Senate resolution advocating a delay in the general elections goes against the constitution.

During a press conference, Haq expressed disappointment, stating, “It is disheartening to learn that the Senate has passed a resolution aiming to postpone the general elections.” He took a dig at political opponents, remarking, “Despite years in power, all political parties have let down the masses.”

Haq emphasized that his party is committed to holding elections in the country on February 8.

Earlier, Haq had condemned attempts to delay the upcoming general elections as an “attempt to derail” democracy. Reacting to the Senate resolution, he questioned, “If an attempt is made to derail democracy, who will guide it back on the right path? Postponing elections due to the fear of unrest is akin to yielding to troublemakers.”

Highlighting the importance of timely and transparent elections, he stated, “It is the fundamental right of the masses to freely elect their representatives.” Haq reiterated that his party advocates for transparent polls on February 8, opposing any move that may compromise the democratic process.
