(Web Desk) — Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has taken legal action against journalist Mubasher Luqman by issuing a defamation notice worth Rs1 billion.
Azam claims Luqman made false accusations against him and his family, primarily circulated on social media.

Luqman alleged that Azam was involved in match-fixing and accepted lavish gifts in exchange for influencing match outcomes. These allegations gained traction following Pakistan’s unexpected exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. Luqman specifically mentioned incidents involving costly gifts such as an Audi E-Tron and apartments in Australia and Dubai, allegedly received by Azam through dubious means.

Azam’s legal representatives delivered the defamation notice, demanding an immediate apology from Luqman for spreading these baseless claims. The notice emphasizes that failure to retract the accusations and issue an apology within a specified timeframe will lead to legal proceedings.

A video clip of Luqman discussing these allegations further fueled the controversy, sparking public debate and strong reactions from cricket fans and pundits. The accusations not only targeted Babar Azam but also scrutinized the performance of former captain Shaheen Shah Afridi during the tournament.
