LAHORE (Daily Point) – The former wife of investigative journalist Ahmad Noorani – Ambreen Fatima – has made a series of shocking revelations about her marriage during a recent podcast with journalist Farrukh Shahbaz Warraich. In the emotional and candid conversation, Ambreen Fatima described her troubled relationship with Noorani, shedding light on what she claims was an arranged and deeply painful marriage.
Ambreen Fatima revealed that she was not willing to marry Noorani initially but was pressured when he formally sent a proposal to her family. She recalled that Noorani’s mother visited her home in tears, claiming that her son’s first marriage was failing and that they were seeking a second wife for him. According to Ambreen, Noorani’s mother assured her family that divorce was not common in their household, but they were willing to sever ties with the first wife if needed.
Despite her reservations, Ambreen eventually agreed to the marriage. However, her family, especially her brothers, were skeptical of Noorani’s claims that he had no ongoing relationship with his first wife. Their concerns were later validated when Ambreen discovered Noorani was still living in the same house as his first wife.
Ambreen recounted that immediately after their wedding reception, Noorani left for Islamabad, while she was scheduled to travel to the United States a month later. Upon her return, she said she was met with coldness and exclusion from Noorani and his family. “They would not include me in any family events if his first wife was present,” she said.
The most painful moment, she recalled, was when Noorani’s uncle passed away. Ambreen went to offer condolences but was reportedly thrown out of the house by her mother-in-law because the first wife was there. “Ahmad Noorani refused to even acknowledge me, and his brothers ignored my greetings,” she said.
Following this humiliation, Ambreen decided to seek a divorce. However, Noorani allegedly refused to grant one, telling her she would need to file for khula (a woman-initiated divorce under Islamic law). She claimed that the emotional abuse led her to attempt suicide. “I was in a terrible state, and when my family tried to reach out to him, Noorani and his relatives blocked all our numbers. He never once asked if I was alive,” she said.
Ambreen Fatima also said she was attacked in Lahore, and after the incident, some of Noorani’s associates referred to her as his “ex-wife.” Shocked, she tried to contact him, asking how she had become an ex-wife when she had not received any official divorce papers. Noorani never responded, she claimed.
In a disturbing allegation, Ambreen Fatima stated that Noorani submitted a fake divorce certificate to the U.S. Embassy so he could take his first wife with him abroad. She added that Noorani saw their daughter only once when she was eight months old, and has never seen their son. Their daughter is now six.
Addressing Noorani’s sister, Ambreen Fatima said, “You say your mother has been crying for days. My mother has been crying for five years. But none of you ever cared.” She concluded by saying that she has repeatedly tried to get in touch with Noorani to obtain an official divorce certificate so she can update her records with NADRA, but he has refused all communication.
As of now, Ahmad Noorani has not responded publicly to Ambreen Fatima’s allegations. The story continues to generate widespread discussion on social media, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the claims.
