ECP warns public against fake accounts attributed to CEC

CEC election fake accounts

ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — As the February 8 elections approach within the next two weeks and political campaigning intensifies, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a warning on Wednesday urging the public to be vigilant against fraudulent accounts falsely associated with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.

In an official statement, the ECP disclosed the discovery of a counterfeit WhatsApp account using CEC Raja’s name and image. The electoral body emphasized the need for people to exercise caution in the face of deceptive messages and misinformation. The ECP urged the public to disregard any WhatsApp accounts and propaganda falsely linked to the CEC.

This advisory coincides with the escalating political activities following the allocation of election symbols. Major political parties have initiated their election campaigns, marking a significant phase in the electoral process.

The ECP’s cautionary message regarding fake accounts and propaganda gains significance against the backdrop of the country’s predominantly younger population, indicating the potential influential role of social media platforms in shaping narratives as the elections draw closer.
