Fatima’s Condition Improves After UOL Incident, Taken Off Ventilator

LAHORE (Web Desk) — A female student of a private university attempted suicide due to family pressure and refusal to accept her choice of marriage. She was shifted to the hospital in critical condition, while police investigations are ongoing.

According to police sources, Fatima, a resident of Narang Mandi, wanted to marry a young man named Ahmed. However, her family opposed the marriage and insisted that she complete her education first. Distressed over the refusal, Fatima attempted suicide. Police revealed that the student made her last phone call to Ahmed before deleting his number. Statements of the family members have been recorded, and further investigations are underway.

SSP Investigation Lahore Muhammad Naveed Qureshi, in an exclusive conversation with the daily Jahan Pakistan, stated that no evidence of pressure from the university administration has been found so far. Police have also conducted detailed inquiries with the student’s classmates and university administration.

Meanwhile, a medical board has been reconstituted for the treatment of the injured student. The number of board members has been increased from four to seven. The board includes Professor of Medicine Dr. Khurram Saleem, Head of the Pulmonology Department Dr. Javed Mugsi, and Associate Professor of Gynecology Dr. Saira Zeeshan. Senior doctors are continuously monitoring the student’s condition, while Principal Professor Farooq Afzal is personally supervising the treatment process.

The university administration has also clarified that a thorough investigation into the incident is underway and that a final report will be issued after reviewing all aspects of the case.

Meanwhile, the student under treatment at General Hospital has regained consciousness. According to doctors, the 21-year-old student Fatima, who was admitted to the ICU, has shown significant improvement and has been removed from the ventilator. Doctors stated that she is now breathing on her own, oxygen support is ongoing, her hemodynamics are stable, and after regaining full consciousness, her Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was recorded at 14/15.

Doctors further confirmed that Fatima has spoken with her family members. Additionally, the neurosurgical team remains active, and a reassessment will be conducted regarding possible spinal surgery.

On the other hand, Chairman of the Medical Board Professor Jodat Saleem provided a detailed briefing on the student’s condition to Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Professor Farooq Afzal. He fully apprised the principal of the treatment administered so far and the future medical plan.
