Govt orders arrest of illegal Afghan residents

ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) – The Ministry of Interior has issued a notification authorizing the arrest, detention, and deportation of foreign nationals residing in Pakistan illegally, including those who have overstayed their visa validity.

This directive comes following the expiration of the deadline for these individuals to leave Pakistan. Authorities nationwide have begun taking action in accordance with the ministry’s orders.

It’s important to note that a significant number of Afghans, some of whom have lived in Pakistan for decades, are being compelled to return to Afghanistan.

The ministry’s notification specifies that individuals under trial or convicted of crimes will not be repatriated. This notification has been distributed to all provinces.

Caretaker Minister for Interior, Sarfraz Bugti, released a video statement emphasizing that refugees will not be deported, but individuals who are residing in Pakistan without legal status will be required to leave.

Earlier today, the minister shared a video showing the repatriation of Afghan nationals, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to repatriate individuals lacking proper documentation.

It’s noteworthy that a significant portion of the Afghan nationals being repatriated were born in Pakistan and have never been to Afghanistan. The takeover of the Taliban has added to the challenges they face when contemplating life under their rule.

In the past, various governments introduced amnesty schemes for the wealthy to legitimize their undisclosed wealth. Regrettably, no similar arrangements have been made for the regularization of individuals who have been displaced from their homes.

A heart-wrenching video of an Afghan child bidding farewell to classmates recently went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism and public outcry.
