(Web Desk) — WhatsApp users have long struggled with the pixelation of photos and videos shared on the app. Traditionally, to avoid this issue, users had to manually select the HD option before sending each photo.
However, Meta’s instant messaging platform is about to make this process much easier with the introduction of a new feature.
This upcoming update will allow users to send photos in high-definition (HD) by default, eliminating the need to manually choose the HD option for each photo, as reported by 9to5Mac. This enhancement will enable WhatsApp users to share high-quality media seamlessly and conveniently.
Both iOS and Android users will be able to set HD as the default quality for sending high-resolution media on WhatsApp. This option can be found in the “Storage and Data” menu within the app’s settings.
While the standard quality reduces photos taken with an iPhone to 960×1280 pixels, the HD option retains the original resolution of 3024×4032 pixels. Although images are still compressed with the HD setting enabled, the compression is much less aggressive than before.
Last year, WhatsApp introduced a similar option for videos, allowing them to be sent in 720p resolution instead of 480p. The new setting for default quality will also apply to videos, ensuring that users can consistently share higher-quality media without additional steps.
