ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Despite the prevailing financial turmoil, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has made a significant move by reducing Umrah ticket prices by Rs7,000.
As per a PIA spokesperson, the round-trip Umrah fare from several key cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, Multan, and Faisalabad to Jeddah, has been revised to Rs87,000, inclusive of taxes. Furthermore, the round-trip tickets from Karachi and Quetta to Jeddah now cost Rs. 79,000. These adjusted fares have already gone into effect.
“The PIA remains committed to facilitating Umrah pilgrims,” highlighted the national flag carrier’s spokesperson. Recently, PIA faced operational challenges due to issues with fuel supply, which led to the cancellation of numerous flights.
Reports indicate that the state-owned airline has incurred losses exceeding Rs6 billion and issued refunds of approximately Rs50 million to affected passengers. Nevertheless, PIA is optimistic about a full restoration of its flight operations by the coming week. It is worth noting that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has received Rs500 million from the airline, enabling PIA to operate its flights based on the availability of fuel.
