Now electricity bills to increase by Rs1,000 from July 1 -

(Web Desk) — The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has proposed imposing fixed charges ranging from Rs200 to Rs1,000 per month on domestic electricity consumers.

This proposal has been sent to the federal government for approval. If approved, the additional charges will take effect from July 1, 2024, placing an extra financial burden on electricity consumers, many of whom are already struggling to pay their utility bills due to high inflation in the country.

The proposed fixed charges are as follows:

Consumers using 301-400 units per month: Rs200/month
Consumers using 401-500 units per month: Rs400/month
Consumers using 501-600 units per month: Rs600/month
Consumers using 601-700 units per month: Rs800/month
Consumers using above 700 units per month: Rs1,000/month

Reports indicate that the government plans to approach NEPRA for a uniform tariff for the fiscal year 2024-25. Earlier this month, NEPRA approved an increase in the base tariff by Rs5.75 per unit for FY25, setting the new price at Rs35.50 per unit.
