Daily Point ( Press Release) — To revolutionise healthcare education and practice both regionally and globally, The University of Lahore (UOL) has established the Chair of Transformational Health, a visionary new post aimed at reshaping its medical and dental ecosystem to meet global standards. Acclaimed clinical leader and strategist Prof Dr Khalid Anis (MBE) has been appointed as the inaugural Chair, bringing over three decades of cross-sector leadership across the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), civic society, public health, social enterprise, and entrepreneurship.
The appointment of Dr Khalid marks the next phase in UOL’s strategic journey to become a centre of excellence for healthcare education, research and practice. As healthcare rapidly evolves through the integration of artificial intelligence, robotics, and system-level innovation, UOL is positioning itself to lead, not follow, these transformations. The newly created chair will be a launchpad for embedding these technologies and methodologies into the university’s clinical teaching, research, and care delivery.
Mr Awais Raoof (Chairman, Board of Governors (BoG), UOL) expressed his pleasure over the appointment of Prof Dr Khalid, calling it a ‘game-changing’ step towards elevating UOL’s healthcare ecosystem. He highlighted that the role will link UOL’s medical platforms, including the University College of Medicine & Dentistry (UCMD), Allied Health Sciences (AHS), University of Lahore Teaching Hospital (ULTH), and other clinical setups, with the UK system, accelerating the adoption of AI and digital technologies across healthcare. Mr Awais emphasised that, within five years, this initiative will transform UOL into an internationally recognised hub for innovative medical research, expert collaboration, and advanced clinical training, setting new benchmarks for healthcare education in Pakistan and beyond.
Dr Khalid, a recipient of the MBE for services to healthcare, is widely recognised for his people-centred, performance-driven leadership style. His career spans key roles as Clinical Director and Consultant of Public Health in the NHS, CEO, multiple-practice owner, and previous advisor to both the UK Department of Health and the World Health Organisation (WHO). He is also a Non-Executive Director in a primary care innovation start-up, a testament to his active engagement at the frontier of healthcare disruption.
Known for blending vision with execution, Dr Khalid draws inspiration from elite coaching and systems thinking. His approach: surround the mission with the right people, embed excellence at every level, and treat innovation as essential, will be key in shaping UOL’s next chapter in medical, dental, and allied health sciences.
Reflecting on his new role, Dr Khalid commented, “My role at The University of Lahore is to help chart a course for the medical and dental faculty to move towards becoming a world-class institution, not just in name, but in impact. As Chair of Transformational Health, my vision is to drive innovation across teaching, practice, and research. I see three clear outcomes: greater faculty satisfaction, a distinctive academic environment that attracts students with a future-focused mindset, and tangible improvements in population health.”
Stating his vision, he said, “Over the next year, we aim to build new global partnerships, raise our research profile, and lay the groundwork for lasting change, particularly through the integration of AI and public health. Within five years, I expect to see measurable improvements in diagnostics, patient outcomes, and international recognition for the work we do.”
