PESHAWAR (Daily Point) — An explosion on Warsak Road in Peshawar resulted in injuries to at least seven individuals, including three children, according to police and hospital officials on Tuesday.
As per local media reports, the blast, believed to be caused by explosive materials, occurred around 9:10 am. The injured victims were promptly transported to Lady Reading Hospital, where two children, aged between 7 and 10 years, are reportedly in critical condition.
Superintendent Police Arshad Khan, present at the scene, revealed that the explosives, weighing 4kg, were concealed in a cement block at the roadside. A search operation in the surrounding areas has been initiated, with concerns of potential extortion motives being considered.
“The element of extortion is also being considered in the blast,” stated SP Arshad Khan. He cautioned against premature speculation regarding the target of the explosion.
Following the incident, police and Rescue 1122 teams swiftly responded to the site in the Babu Garhi area of Peshawar. Rescue officials noted that the blast’s impact shattered the glass of two vehicles and nearby buildings.
Metropolitan Mayor Zubair Ali, addressing journalists, expressed concern over the explosion occurring near a school, deeming it an attempt to disrupt peace and order. He described the incident near educational institutions as unfortunate.
