CHANDIGARH — A heartwarming tale unfolded at the Wagah-Attari International Border as Javeria Khanum from Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan, is set to tie the knot with Sameer Khan from Kolkata, India, after a five-year journey that overcame visa rejections and pandemic-related hurdles.

The couple’s story began five years ago when Joyria and Sameer connected on social media, eventually blossoming into a deep and enduring relationship. Sameer’s parents extended a formal proposal to Joyria’s family, which was graciously accepted. The engagement took place five years ago, and preparations for the wedding commenced.

However, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic hindered their plans. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad initially rejected Joyria’s visa application, not once but twice. Undeterred, the couple persisted, and on the third attempt in November, their perseverance bore fruit. The Indian High Commission approved a 45-day visa for Joyria, paving the way for her journey to India.

Javeria, who has been granted a 45-day visa, expressed her joy at finally being able to make the journey.

After a long-awaited journey, Joyria crossed the border at Wagah, reaching India amid a warm reception from her future in-laws and relatives. Sameer Khan, along with his family, welcomed Joyria with the rhythmic beats of drums, symbolizing the joyous union of two families. The couple, along with their families, will proceed to Kolkata after a brief stay in Delhi, with the actual wedding festivities set to unfold in the first week of January.

Sameer expressed his gratitude to the Indian government for granting Joyria the visa, highlighting the significance of special concessions between the two nations in matters of marriage. Both Joyria and Sameer conveyed their indescribable happiness, with Joyria noting that the entire experience felt like a dream come true.

Journalist Khalid Mahmood, reporting on the unique love story, shared insights into the couple’s perseverance and the challenges they faced over the years. The news of their impending marriage has captured the attention of media on both sides of the border, emphasizing the power of love to transcend borders and barriers.
