(Daily Point) — The Golden Globes, Hollywood’s prestigious launch of its annual awards season, bestowed top honors upon the historical drama “Oppenheimer” and the gothic comedy “Poor Things” on Sunday.
“Oppenheimer” clinched the title of Best Movie Drama, as voted by around 300 entertainment journalists participating in the Globes, a part of a new organization established following an ethics and diversity scandal.
In the category of Best Movie Musical or Comedy, “Poor Things,” featuring Emma Stone as a revived deceased woman, triumphed over the female-empowerment blockbuster “Barbie.”
Turning to television, “Succession” secured the Best Drama title, while “The Bear,” a series delving into the challenges of owning a restaurant, took home the Best TV Comedy award.
Marking the commencement of Hollywood’s awards season, the glamorous ceremony brought together top stars for the first time in six months, following strikes by actors and writers in 2023. The event provided performers with an opportunity to connect and promote their movies and TV shows after months of restricted red carpet events and other promotional activities.
The live broadcast of the ceremony aired on CBS and was simultaneously streamed for Paramount+ subscribers with Showtime.
