The introduction of YouTube Shorts, featuring short-length videos, played a significant role in engaging both content creators and the Pakistani audience. This format appealed particularly to younger viewers interested in informative and entertaining content.
Despite the popularity of Shorts, long-form content continued to resonate with Pakistanis, evident in the substantial screen time devoted to various content creators. Notably, Geo Television’s “Tere Bin” Episode 57, starring Yumna Zaidi and Wahaj Ali, emerged as the most trending video in Pakistan, receiving widespread acclaim.
Google’s Regional Director for Pakistan, Farhan Qureshi, emphasized the cultural evolution reflected in the top trending list. He noted a substantial rise in Shorts viewership and the formation of distinct fan bases around specific content categories such as music, dramas, and vlogs. Qureshi highlighted that content creators are adopting multi-format approaches to explore new genres and audiences, anticipating a more diverse range of content.
According to YouTube statistics, successful content creators in Pakistan included ZAMZAM ELECTRONICS TRADING and Ducky Bhai (Saad ur Rehman). Other notable channels on the top creators’ list were Sistrology, Maaz Safdar World, and Ijaz Ansari Food Secrets.
The year underscored Pakistanis’ enduring passion for music, with Indian-origin songs like “Tere Vaaste,” “Kya Loge Tum,” “Zihaal e Miskin,” and Bilal Saeed’s “Udh Di Phiran” making it to the top music videos watched in 2023.
