High-security alert over fears of attacks in major cities of Pakistan

cities high security alert

RAWALPINDI (Daily Point) — A looming terrorism threat hangs over major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Quetta, as intelligence points to plans by banned groups such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to carry out attacks.

Stringent security measures have been enforced in response to information indicating that over 17 terrorists from four different groups have been assigned to conduct acts of terrorism in key urban centers across the country. Law enforcement agencies and police have been instructed to enhance security in light of this heightened risk.

According to a “Special and Specific Information Report” sent by RPO Rawalpindi Additional IG Syed Khurram Ali, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani, and district police chiefs, there are indications that the top leadership of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan held a meeting in Kabul, outlining plans for terrorist activities in January, with a focus on Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and KPK. Potentially affected districts include DI Khan, Tank, Quetta, Chaman, Pishan, and other areas. Funding for these activities is believed to have been obtained from Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan, with approximately 15 suicide bombers ready for deployment.

The report discloses that a group of 10 to 12 militants, equipped with night vision glasses, hand grenades, and rocket launchers, has been dispatched under the leadership of Commander Salman alias Siddique, currently hiding in KP. Facilitators for this group are reportedly located in Matni and Izakhel.

In Peshawar’s Hasan Khel area, another group of terrorists is reportedly present, with indications of their existence in Mianwali and Attock districts of Punjab, as well as DG Khan in the border areas of Peshawar and KP.

Security agencies have been alerted about the Dawood Batani group, affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban, planning to target law enforcement agencies and their officers and employees in Punjab’s border districts, with commanders Mashal and Ahmed Baloch assigned for this purpose.

Additionally, reports suggest that Baloch sub-nationalists are planning to target their own community, police, and law enforcement agencies in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, following a meeting in Afghanistan where targets were assigned to five fighters.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the Baloch sub-nationalist group (BSNS) has initiated a propaganda campaign against state institutions with alleged support from intelligence agencies of enemy countries, particularly India.

RPO Rawalpindi Additional IG Syed Khurram Ali, in response to threat alerts, has informed CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani and DPOs in Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum that foolproof security arrangements have been implemented to prevent any untoward situation. Security will be on high alert throughout the division, including Rawalpindi, with increased measures not only around important and sensitive installations but also at entry and exit points of cities and districts.
