Babar Azam creates history in T20 format

LAHORE (Daily Point) — Peshawar Zalmi’s captain and star batsman, Babar Azam, achieved a remarkable milestone on Wednesday as he became the fastest player to reach 10,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Azam accomplished this feat in just 271 innings, surpassing the previous record held by West Indies’ Chris Gayle, who achieved the milestone in 285 innings.

The historic moment came during the sixth match of the Pakistan Super League’s ninth edition, where Peshawar Zalmi faced off against Karachi Kings. Azam’s consistent performance and exceptional batting skills have solidified his position as one of the most formidable players in the T20 format.

Azam’s achievement is even more impressive considering his contributions across various teams. He has represented a total of 19 teams in T20 cricket, accumulating 3,698 runs while playing for the national side and 2,398 runs for the Karachi Kings.

Notably, Azam holds the distinction of being the only player to have scored over 3,000 runs in the Pakistan Super League, further solidifying his status as a cricketing icon. His remarkable accomplishment places him among an elite group of players, as he becomes the 13th player overall to reach the 10,000-run mark in T20 cricket.

While Gayle currently leads the list with 14,562 runs, Azam’s achievement underscores his remarkable talent and dedication to the sport. Additionally, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik follows closely behind with 13,159 runs to his name.
