How much money UK pay to illegal immigrants seeking asylum?

UK asylum seekers illegal migrants

(Daily point) — The UK government plans to offer up to £3,000 per person to facilitate voluntary relocation of asylum seekers to Rwanda, according to Reuters.

This initiative, separate from previous efforts deemed illegal by the Supreme Court, aims to assist refugees whose asylum applications have been denied.

Under this new arrangement, asylum seekers opting to stay in Rwanda will receive financial support, contrasting with previous policies offering assistance for return to their country of origin.

British minister Kevin Hollenrick defended the scheme as a cost-effective measure compared to supporting rejected asylum seekers within the UK. Despite acknowledging the substantial sum offered, Hollenrick stressed the considerable expenses associated with accommodating such individuals domestically.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak highlighted Rwanda’s capacity to host several hundred refugees annually, expressing hopes for potential expansion. Sunak voiced anticipation for the prompt commencement of deportation flights to initiate the project’s execution.
