(Daily Point) — Earlier this week, US President Joe Biden engaged in a meeting with leaders from the Muslim community, during which he shared insights into First Lady Jill Biden’s sentiments regarding Israel’s ongoing actions against Gazans.
Dr Nahreen Ahmed, a participant in the meeting, informed CNN that Biden relayed his wife’s perspective, quoting her as saying, “It’s got to stop.”
However, another attendee, opting to remain anonymous, recalled Biden paraphrasing Jill as saying, “Stop it. Stop it now.”
Yet, Ahmed highlighted the ambiguity of these remarks, emphasizing uncertainty regarding whether the First Lady advocated for a complete cessation of the conflict in Gaza or simply sought a reduction in civilian casualties.
In response to inquiries about the First Lady’s statements, a White House official assured CNN that there is “no daylight” between President Biden and his wife. The official affirmed that both expressed their dismay at the loss of innocent lives in Gaza, clarifying that Jill did not explicitly call for an end to Israel’s actions.
Elizabeth Alexander, the First Lady’s communications director, reiterated Jill’s sorrow over civilian casualties, including aid workers. Alexander emphasized the First Lady’s alignment with her husband’s stance, emphasizing the need for Israel to take measures to safeguard civilians.
“Just like the President, the First Lady is heartbroken over the attacks on aid workers and the ongoing loss of innocent lives in Gaza. They both want Israel to do more to protect civilians.”
