Cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the upcoming series between Pakistan and New Zealand are facing potential disappointment as heavy rainfall threatens to disrupt the T20I matches scheduled in Rawalpindi.
The five-match series, slated to kick off on April 18 in Rawalpindi, is under threat as the city braces for thunderstorms and continuous rainfall throughout the week. The arrival of the Michael Bracewell-led Black Caps’s squad in Islamabad has preceded the looming weather challenges.
With tomorrow’s practice session for the Pakistan team likely to be canceled, concerns loom over the matches scheduled for April 18, 20, and 21 in Rawalpindi, while the remaining two fixtures are planned for Lahore on April 25 and 27.
The situation is compounded by recent rainfall affecting various parts of Pakistan, including Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. While the downpour has brought relief to some areas, it poses a significant threat to the smooth conduct of the cricket series.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings for “rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with an isolated hailstorm” across several regions, including KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan, and upper/southwest Sindh on April 18. Similarly, rain is forecasted for April 20 in KP, the federal capital, Punjab, northeast Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
As fans anxiously wait for updates, the uncertainty surrounding the weather adds an unpredictable element to the eagerly awaited cricket series.
