Saudi Arabia has recently unveiled new regulations governing the issuance of Hajj visas, restricting travel exclusively to the cities of Jeddah, Medina, and Makkah.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah clarified that these visas will serve solely as entry permits for pilgrims participating in the Hajj rituals in 2024. Notably, the visas will not authorize work, residency, or travel beyond the designated cities. Breaching these guidelines could lead to penalties, including bans on future Hajj participation and potential deportation.

International visitors, excluding those from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, must secure a Hajj permit to enter Saudi Arabia. These visas are valid only for the duration of the Hajj season and strictly prohibit holders from performing Umrah or engaging in any employment during this period. To streamline the process, the ministry has introduced electronic registration via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ visa platform.

Applicants are urged to register by the 7th of Dhu Al Hijjah or until the pilgrim quota is met. The application entails logging into the visa platform, selecting relevant services, and submitting required documents. Prospective pilgrims are advised to apply well in advance, as processing typically takes up to three working days.
