Police officer falls victim to Rs700,000 scam through fake bank app

Police scam fake bank account

A police officer serving with the Motorway Police has fallen prey to cybercrime, losing a substantial amount of Rs.700,000 from his bank account.

The officer, identified as Shahid, inadvertently downloaded a counterfeit banking application and proceeded to click on a verification link, unknowingly facilitating the theft of his funds.

Shahid reported that despite clicking the link, he did not receive either a One-Time Password (OTP) or any form of verification. To his dismay, he later discovered that over Rs.700,000 had been siphoned from his account.

Initially, Shahid was given assurances of a refund by the bank administration. However, despite his persistent efforts, he has yet to receive any form of assistance.

Frustrated by the lack of response, Shahid intends to escalate the matter by filing a formal complaint against the bank with the State Bank of Pakistan.
