Italian Pakistani K2

Pakistani and Italian mountaineers have set their sights on conquering the world’s second-highest peak, K2, in commemoration of its historic first ascent.

The endeavor marks the platinum jubilee celebration, marking seven decades since the milestone achievement in 1954 by an Italian expedition led by Mr. Ardito Desio.

Organized by EvK2CNR in partnership with the Italian Alpine Club, the campaign kicked off recently in Italy, drawing notable figures including Ms Daniela Santanchè, Italy’s Federal Minister for Tourism, Mr Antonio Montani, President of the Italian Alpine Club, and Mr Agostino Da Polenza, President of EvK2CNR, along with several distinguished guests.

Scheduled for July-August 2024, the K2 expedition aims to highlight the perseverance, expertise, and camaraderie of women mountaineers from Pakistan and Italy. Four women mountaineers from Pakistan have been selected to join the expedition team, currently undergoing intensive training at Ratu Astor in Pakistan to refine their skills.

In a related context, Agostino Da Polenza will lead the expedition, with Saima Baig appointed as the Pakistani team leader.
