The United Kingdom (UK) recently unveiled a new graduate visa program offering international students the opportunity to remain in the UK for a minimum of two years following the completion of their studies.

Eligibility for the visa extends to students currently residing in the UK under a student visa or Tier 4 (general) student visa, who have successfully finished a UK bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree, or another qualifying course. Those with a PhD or equivalent doctoral qualifications may extend their stay to three years.

Unlike some visas, the graduate visa cannot be extended. However, individuals are permitted to switch to alternative visas, such as the skilled worker visa.

Applicants must apply before their student visa or Tier 4 (general) student visa expires. The application process begins once their educational institution, such as a university or college, notifies the Home Office of their course completion, removing the need to wait for graduation or certificate issuance.

Upon submission, applicants should receive a decision within eight weeks, provided all required documents are included. The application fee stands at £822, with healthcare costs averaging £1,035 per year in the UK.

Healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, are encouraged to explore eligibility for the Health and Care Worker visa. Those who have already paid healthcare surcharges may qualify for a refund.
