A list of highest-paid athletes was released on Thursday, and for the fourth consecutive time, Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo topped it, according to Forbes.
Following Ronaldo, renowned Spanish golfer Jon Rahm secured the second spot on the list after his move to LIV Golf.
This year, the 39-year-old Al Nassr star topped the list with around $260 million, primarily due to his departure from Manchester United and his subsequent move to the Saudi Pro League, which he joined last year.
This figure marks an all-time high for a football player.
ESPN reported that the Al Nassr striker’s football earnings amounted to $200 million, while his brand endorsements brought in an additional $60 million.
Ronaldo stated a day earlier that he intends to continue his football career “at a high level” despite nearing his 40s.
Jon Rahm joined LIV Golf last year, earning at least $300 million from the transfer. His switch to the Saudi-backed golf league made headlines with this substantial amount.
Additionally, the 29-year-old professional golfer earned $218 million, placing him just behind the Al Nassr star.
In third place was eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who joined Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami FC under a deal worth $135 million.
The earnings of the 36-year-old Argentine amounted to $65 million on the field, with an estimated $70 million from commercial associations.
Other notable names include Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, who ranked fourth with $128.2 million, and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, who rounded out the top five with $111 million. French captain Kylian Mbappé dropped to sixth with $110 million in earnings.
