(Web Desk) — A scuffle erupted within the premises of a district and sessions court in Islamabad as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyers reportedly targeted Khawar Maneka, the former husband of Bushra Bibi, during a hearing related to a contentious nikah case.
According to the local media reports, Maneka appeared for the hearing regarding the validity of the marriage, chaos ensued when PTI lawyers allegedly resorted to violence, including hurling bottles in the courtroom.
The situation escalated further when Maneka was being escorted out of the courtroom by his legal team, only to be assaulted by a PTI lawyer within the court premises, causing him to fall to the ground.
Meanwhile, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, presiding over the appeals filed by Bushra Bibi and PTI founder Imran Khan against their conviction in a separate case, retreated to his chamber without announcing the verdict. The court had earlier reserved its decision on the appeals, which were eagerly anticipated, but no announcement was made on this day.
The incident stems from Maneka’s challenge of Khan and Bushra Bibi’s marriage, arguing that their nikah was conducted during her iddat, a period of isolation following divorce or the death of a spouse, thereby questioning its validity. The legal proceedings surrounding this issue have evidently led to tensions boiling over, culminating in the disturbing events witnessed in the courtroom.
