(Web Desk) — Punjab Chief Minister and central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, has announced a major relief initiative for the public.
Under her leadership, the provincial government has decided to provide free solar panels to residents based on their electricity consumption.
Details emerging from the media indicate that the Punjab government will offer free solar panels to consumers using up to 200 units of electricity.
For consumers using between 200 and 500 units, the government will provide interest-free loans. For those using more than 500 units, the government will cover 75% of the cost of interest-free loans.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the rising electricity bills are causing significant distress, and she empathizes with the public’s concerns.
Environmentally, this scheme is a significant step towards promoting renewable energy. By reducing dependence on fossil fuels, it will help lower greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.
The shift to clean energy benefits the environment and sets a precedent for future sustainable projects like Solar Point and the Roshan Gharana Program. Economically, the initiative is expected to boost local growth by creating jobs in the solar energy sector, including manufacturing, installation, and maintenance. It will also improve the quality of life for residents facing energy access challenges by ensuring a reliable supply of electricity.
In the long term, the benefits are substantial. Over the 25–30 year lifespan of the solar systems, the savings on electricity bills can far exceed the initial costs of installation, making this a highly beneficial investment for the residents of Punjab.
