(Web Desk Monitoring) — The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (DIRPIS) has canceled the registration of a private school in Karachi’s Orangi Town following allegations of sexual harassment against the school owner.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the incident involves a tenth-grade female student who reported being harassed by the school owner. Upon receiving the complaint, DIRPIS formed an investigation committee to look into the matter. The committee’s findings substantiated the harassment allegations.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, DIRPIS took decisive action and revoked the school’s registration.
According to the police report, the principal initially sent inappropriate messages to the student via her mobile phone. On June 1st, he called her to his office where he allegedly assaulted her. The principal is also accused of threatening to fail the student in her exams if she did not comply with his demands. The FIR details that when the student entered the principal’s office, he attempted to assault her, but she managed to escape by kicking him in the abdomen.
Fearful of the principal’s threats and violence, the student did not immediately report the incident. The police have since arrested the accused and initiated an investigation.
DIRPIS continues to monitor private institutions across the province closely. They have resolved over 1,807 complaints of various natures against privately managed schools to date. Additionally, the Directorate has addressed 6,076 complaints received through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU).
