(Web Desk Monitoring) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan said that the debate over amendments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) ordinance is not centered on himself but on the broader interests of the nation.
In his written submission to the Supreme Court, Khan underscored that the issue transcends personal interests, focusing instead on serving the millions of Pakistanis who rely on a fair and effective governance system.
The Supreme Court recently reserved its verdict on challenges brought by federal and provincial governments against a majority 2-1 judgment from September 15, 2022, which had endorsed amendments made by the Pakistan Democratic Movement government to the NAB Ordinance.
This legal battle follows historical tensions between the incarcerated former prime minister and the judiciary, notably involving Chief Justice Isa. Khan’s administration previously filed a presidential reference in 2019 against Chief Justice Isa, alleging undisclosed foreign properties under family members’ names. This reference was ultimately dismissed by a 10-member larger bench of the Supreme Court led by former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
Reflecting on this controversy, Khan acknowledged that pursuing the presidential reference against Chief Justice Isa had been an error in judgment.
