(Web Desk) — Lahore has been drenched by heavy downpours, with the Tajpura area receiving a staggering 242 millimeters of rain. Several neighborhoods recorded over 100 millimeters, leading to inundated roads and submerged low-lying areas.

Significant rainfall totals included 135 mm in Samanabad, 133 mm in Gulshan-e-Ravi, and 130 mm at Lakshmi Chowk. Other affected areas included Pani Wala Talab (128 mm), Qurtuba Chowk (125 mm), Mughalpura (132 mm), and Airport (71 mm). Substantial rainfall was also reported in Upper Mall (123 mm), Iqbal Town (128 mm), and Gulberg Town (103 mm). Low-lying regions, including Jail Road (55 mm), experienced severe water accumulation.

In addition to Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, such as Nikyal and Barnala, faced heavy rainfall. This weather has led to numerous power outages and caused significant challenges for residents.

Residents encountered difficulties as rainwater collected in several areas, including Rawalpindi’s Dhok Kashmirian and Sadiqabad, and Lahore’s Devis Road, Nisbat Road, Gawalmandi, and others.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has deployed staff to manage water drainage in low-lying regions and to address potential flooding in the Lai Nullah.

In light of the emergency situation, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed local administrations and WASA to take immediate action to drain stormwater across the affected cities. She emphasized the need for staff and officials to monitor vulnerable areas continuously until the rainwater is fully cleared.

Maryam also directed Rescue 1122 and other departments to prepare for emergencies. “Efforts to drain main arteries and low-lying areas must proceed without interruption. Immediate measures are essential to address the flooding caused by the continuous rain,” she stated, urging traffic police to ensure smooth vehicular movement on the roads.
