(Web Desk) — The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has introduced a new policy permitting students who completed their FSc (Intermediate) with pre-medical subjects to enroll in BS Engineering programs.
As reported by English Newspaper Dawn, this decision comes with the approval of an 8-week transitional program aimed at bridging academic gaps for pre-medical students before commencing their engineering studies.
Dr. Nasir Mahmood Khan, Registrar of PEC, highlighted that this policy shift follows consultations with university vice-chancellors and experts. He pointed out a significant decline in annual engineering graduates, from about 30,000 previously to a recent drop of nearly 10,000 admissions in a single year, leading to the closure of some engineering departments in universities.
In a letter issued on July 11th after the PEC Governing Body’s 49th meeting, it was mandated that all engineering programs admit students with Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Intermediate Pre-Medical qualifications. Universities are instructed to implement this directive starting from the upcoming fall admissions.
This initiative aims to address the declining enrollment trend in engineering programs and ensure the ongoing development of a proficient engineering workforce across Pakistan.
