(Web Desk) — Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, now features two popular hashtags for Donald Trump after Elon Musk’s endorsement of the former president following an assassination attempt at a rally on Saturday.
The hashtags #MAGA and #Trump2024 are trending, accompanied by small photos of Trump raising his fist and the American flag. As of Thursday evening, #MAGA is the top trending hashtag on the platform. Typing #MAGA in the search box triggers a visual effect of American flags falling from the top of the page.
In contrast, the hashtag for the Democratic candidate, #Biden2024, lacks such branded features.
These hashtags, referred to as ‘hashmojis’ by X, have a significant impact and are often used by advertisers to promote events, products, and brands for a duration of 24 hours. It is currently unclear whether the Trump-themed hashtags were purchased by his campaign or added without their involvement, as inquiries by Forbes have yet to be answered.
Additionally, the cost of these hashmojis is not listed on X’s branded features page.
Following the failed assassination attempt on Trump, Musk posted on X, “I fully endorse President Trump,” and has donated to a pro-Trump super PAC, America PAC, to support his candidacy in the upcoming elections.
