(Web Desk Monitoring) — The Ministry of Information Technology has announced its goal to roll out 5G services in Pakistan by the first quarter of 2025.
As part of the preparations, the ministry will engage with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth launch.
In a recent meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology, officials confirmed that the government is committed to introducing 5G between January and March 2025. The committee has suggested amendments to the current 5G policy, including permitting telecom companies to make installment payments and developing a strategy to ensure nationwide availability of the service.
Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, informed the committee that, “The government has initiated work on the 5G rollout, focusing on managing both revenue and infrastructure.” She added, “Our target is to launch 5G in the first quarter of 2025, with efforts directed towards selecting consultants and restructuring for the launch.”
Former IT Minister and Standing Committee Chairman Syed Aminul Haque emphasized the challenges faced by telecom companies regarding dollar payments. He stressed that the government must address these issues to ensure that 5G serves its intended purpose of enhancing public convenience and supporting business growth.
