(Web Desk Monitoring) — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to hold a public rally in Islamabad either in the last week of August or the first week of September.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amir Gandapur, shared this update with the media on Monday. The rally, which was initially scheduled for last month, was postponed after the district administration withdrew permission. The event was intended to advocate for the release of Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August of the previous year. Despite the suspension or overturning of his previous convictions in light of the upcoming parliamentary elections in February, Khan remains detained on new charges. He contends that these legal actions are politically motivated.
Gandapur announced that the rally would take place on a weekend, either in the last week of August or the first week of September. He emphasized that if the party does not receive the required permission or a no-objection certificate (NOC) for a designated location, the rally will proceed at D-Chowk. D-Chowk, located at the intersection of Jinnah Avenue and Constitution Avenue in Islamabad, is a prominent area near key government buildings such as the Presidency, Prime Minister’s Office, Parliament, and Supreme Court.
“If we are denied a NOC, the rally will take place at D-Chowk,” Gandapur declared. “We are determined to hold this rally in Islamabad, which serves as both my federal capital and the federal capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The PTI has faced difficulties organizing rallies across the country since Khan’s arrest on corruption charges last August. The party alleges a state-backed crackdown and mass arrests of its members and supporters, though Pakistani authorities deny these claims.
