(Daily Point) — Pakistani mountaineer Murad Sadpara has gone missing after an accident while attempting to summit Broad Peak, one of the world’s tallest mountains. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked urgent appeals for a rescue operation from the climbing community.
Sadpara was part of a Pakistani team that had recently completed a mission to recover the body of a porter who died on K2 a year earlier.
Fellow climber Naila Kiani shared the news on Facebook, revealing that Sadpara had met with an accident on Broad Peak, located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan. “We’re urging the Pakistan Army to dispatch four climbers from Skardu to the Broad Peak crampon point to safely retrieve him,” Kiani wrote.
Broad Peak, at 8,047 meters (26,555 feet), is considered one of the safer 8,000-meter peaks, with a relatively straightforward route compared to the treacherous K2. However, the mountain remains challenging and dangerous, making rescue operations critical.
Abid Sadpara, another mountaineer, also took to social media, pleading for prayers for Murad’s safe return. “Unfortunately, we’re resorting to social media because no one is responding to our pleas,” he wrote.
Pakistan is home to five of the world’s 14 peaks towering above 8,000 meters, including the infamous K2 and Nanga Parbat, which are known for their perilous climbs and attract mountaineers from around the globe.
