(Web Desk Monitoring) — Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has distanced himself and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), from the arrest of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed, stating that it is an internal matter of the military.
“Khan sahib said that it is the army’s internal matter and that whatever action the army has taken has nothing to do with PTI or Khan sahib,” PTI lawyer Intezar Panjutha informed reporters after meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the military has its own structure and can take action against any individual as per its own regulations.
The development comes after the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced on Monday that Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed had been taken into military custody, and a field general court martial process had been initiated against him in connection with the Top City housing scheme scandal. The ISPR stated that disciplinary action is being pursued under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.
