(Web Desk Monitoring) — In connection with the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings against Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid, three additional retired military officers have been taken into custody, according to a statement from the army’s media wing on Thursday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that the retired officers are under arrest for actions deemed prejudicial to military discipline. The ISPR also mentioned ongoing investigations into the involvement of certain retired officers and their associates in destabilizing activities linked to political interests.
Sources reported that among those detained are two retired brigadiers, Ghaffar and Naeem, and one retired colonel, Asim. These officers are alleged to have acted as intermediaries between a political party and the former ISI chief, Gen Faiz Hamid. The brigadiers, hailing from Chakwal, are accused of facilitation.
To date, a total of eight individuals, including these retired officers, have been taken into custody in relation to the proceedings against Gen Faiz Hamid.
On August 12, the ISPR announced that Gen Faiz Hamid had been taken into military custody due to allegations of land grabbing and theft from a private housing society. This action followed a Supreme Court order for a detailed inquiry into complaints against him in the Top City Case.
The ISPR confirmed that disciplinary measures have been initiated against Gen Hamid under the Pakistan Army Act. The former general, who served as Peshawar corps commander and was once the ISI Director General, is accused of multiple violations of the Army Act following his retirement.
The arrest stemmed from a petition filed by the CEO of a housing society last year, accusing Gen Hamid of land grabbing and theft during a raid. The petition, lodged with the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell, detailed severe allegations including the detention of the petitioner and his family, robbery of properties, and coercion to transfer business ownership.
On November 8, 2023, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, dismissed the petition, advising the petitioner to seek redress through appropriate channels, such as the Ministry of Defence or legal action for damages.
Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid had retired early in November 2022, with his request for retirement approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in December. He was among the top generals considered for the positions of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) prior to his retirement.
