RAWALPINDI (Daily Point) — The Kite Flying Association Rawalpindi has revealed its intent to celebrate Basant in the garrison city, defying the government’s prohibition on the festival.
As per the association’s schedule, Basant festivities are slated for February 9 in Rawalpindi Cantt and February 16 in Rawalpindi City.
In a bid to ensure safety and compliance, the association has imposed a ban on the use of metallic strings, warning that violators will be handed over to the police. Additionally, law enforcement has been urged to take decisive action against wholesale dealers involved in the illicit production and sale of metallic strings.
Highlighting the potential hazards associated with metallic strings to human lives, the association underscored its commitment to enforcing strict measures against violators in accordance with the law.
Muhammad Iqbal and Iqar Mehmood, officials of the Kite Flying Association of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, vehemently opposed the government’s ban on celebrating Basant.
Asserting their stance, the organizers declared that Basant would proceed as planned, and in the event of rain disrupting the originally scheduled dates, the festival would be rescheduled for the following week.
In a move to enhance the festival experience, the Kite Flying Association announced plans to organize special rooftop BBQs for participants. Moreover, the association reportedly aims to facilitate the celebration with approximately 3.5 million kites and 1.5 million strings.
