LAHORE (Daily Point) — PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed satisfaction on Tuesday over the chants supporting imprisoned former premier Imran Khan during his address to the bar council in Lahore.
“Slogans were hurled here, and in the background, slogans were chanted in favor of the PTI founder,” he stated. “I am pleased to hear that slogans were chanted.”
Imran Khan has been in custody since August, facing charges of leaking classified documents, which he alleges are fabricated to prevent him from participating in the upcoming February 8 general elections.
Claiming a lack of a fair playing field for the Khan-led party, Bilawal emphasised the need for equal opportunities for all political parties in the elections.
While advocating for new faces in politics, Bilawal highlighted the existing polarization in Pakistan’s political landscape. Quoting Khan’s refusal to engage with political rivals and his tendency to make allegations against them, Bilawal stressed the importance of respectful dialogue in politics.
Acknowledging political differences, Bilawal expressed respect for political workers across various parties, including PPP, PML-N, and PTI. He emphasized that imprisoning political opponents undermines constitutional principles and accused the PTI founder of promoting a politics of hate and division.
Bilawal urged against converting political differences into animosity and emphasized the significance of considering each other as patriotic Pakistanis. He also addressed the presidential reference seeking the Supreme Court’s opinion on the controversial 1979 death sentence of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, noting its scheduled hearing last week.
