(Web Desk Monitoring) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took prompt action on Wednesday regarding an alleged domestic violence incident involving anchorperson Ayesha Jahanzeb and her husband.
The incident, reported by Ayesha Chaudhry, led to the filing of a first information report (FIR) at Lahore’s Sarwar Road police station on Monday under Pakistan Penal Code Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506-B (criminal intimidation).
According to the FIR, Jahanzeb’s husband, Haris Ali, has been habitually abusive and violent throughout their marriage. The report states that he threatened to kill her last month and continued his abusive behavior. On Monday, he allegedly beat Jahanzeb, causing bruises, and dragged her outside to their house’s gate. He then pointed a gun at her head and threatened to kill her, prompting their two daughters to intervene. The commotion was subdued by her driver and electrician, after which Ali fled, brandishing his gun.
In response to the incident, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has summoned a detailed report from the inspector general of police. Additionally, she has ensured that the best medical treatment facilities are provided to Jahanzeb.
“Women are my red line; any form of torture against domestic or working women will not be tolerated,” stated the chief minister.
