On Tuesday, social media platforms were flooded with claims suggesting an attempted assassination of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. However, these claims were swiftly debunked as false.

The rumors, which quickly spread on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that a heavily armed security convoy, supposedly transporting the Saudi crown prince and other high-ranking officials, had been bombed in Riyadh.

Videos supposedly showing the assassination attempt also circulated widely on the micro-blogging platform. It was reported that the purported incident led to a significant deployment of security forces in the capital city.

Despite the speculation, there was no official confirmation of any assassination attempt on the Saudi crown prince.

BBC journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh refuted these claims as “completely baseless.” Taking to X, he addressed the issue, stating, “A completely unfounded claim regarding an assassination attempt on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is gaining traction on X, propagated by fake osint accounts and known purveyors of misinformation seeking engagement. There is no evidence to support this claim,” effectively quashing the rumors.

Meanwhile, BRICS News also dismissed reports of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s assassination as false. They clarified, “Reports of an assassination attempt on Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman are untrue. MBS was not targeted in any assassination attempt; this is misinformation.”

Regarding the video purportedly depicting the assassination attempt, Siasat.com reported that it actually originated from a fire incident in Riyadh managed by the Civil Defense on March 16, 2024.
