(Web Desk) — Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has been transferred to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Lahore after her health condition worsened.
According to sources reported by private TV Channel Geo News on Monday, Dr Rashid, who is currently on judicial remand at Kot Lakhpat Jail, has been hospitalized for specific medical tests.
Dr Rashid’s lawyer, Advocate Rana Mudassar, stated that despite multiple court orders instructing authorities to ensure timely medical care, Dr. Rashid was not provided the necessary medical attention, leading to a decline in her health. The lawyer mentioned that the situation regarding her health would become clearer following cancer-related tests.
Sources at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital revealed that the former Punjab health minister is undergoing various tests due to breathing difficulties. Further medical examinations are expected to be conducted at a government hospital.
This incident is not the first time Dr Rashid, aged 72, has experienced health issues. In May, she was admitted to Lahore’s Services Hospital after collapsing. She has been in custody for over a year, facing multiple charges related to the nationwide protests and riots on May 9, 2023, following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Initially detained on May 12 under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, Dr. Rashid was later re-arrested for her alleged involvement in the May 9 unrest. Many PTI leaders, including Imran Khan, have been incarcerated for nearly a year, primarily facing charges related to the May 9 protests, during which state installations, including the Lahore Corps Commander House, were attacked.
