Eidul Fitr celebrations: Moon sightings vary in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh

Moon Eidul fitr

In a joyous announcement, the Shawwal moon sighting has been confirmed in Pakistan, heralding the end of Ramadan and the commencement of Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations. With this confirmation, Pakistan is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.

The moon sighting committee declared the sighting after receiving multiple testimonies from various regions, officially marking the conclusion of Ramadan’s month-long fasting period.

Meanwhile, in India and Bangladesh, the Shawwal moon remained elusive. As a result, both countries have decided to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Thursday, April 11.

In Bangladesh, the National Moon Sighting Committee made the decision after no reports of moon sightings were received from any part of the country. This decision extends Ramadan to a full 30 days this year, allowing for more time for spiritual reflection and worship.

Similarly, in India, the Markazi Chand Committee Eidgah in Lucknow confirmed the non-sighting of the crescent moon across the country. Consequently, Muslims in India will observe another day of fasting on Wednesday, with Eid-ul-Fitr festivities scheduled for Thursday.

The differing moon sighting outcomes underscore the diversity of moon sighting traditions within the Muslim community and highlight the importance of following the Islamic lunar calendar for religious observances.

While Pakistan prepares for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on Wednesday, India and Bangladesh anticipate joyous festivities a day later, emphasizing the unity and shared religious practices among Muslims worldwide during this special time.
