(Web Desk) — The Punjab government has unveiled the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme, a significant initiative aimed at tackling housing challenges in the province.
This program offers interest-free loans and manageable repayment plans to support both urban and rural landowners in building affordable homes.
Scheme Overview
The “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative provides interest-free loans of up to Rs. 15 lakh for home construction. It distinguishes between urban and rural areas:
- Urban Areas: Loans up to Rs. 15 lakh are available for landowners with plots ranging from 1 to 5 marlas.
- Rural Areas: Loans up to Rs. 15 lakh are offered for plots ranging from 1 to 10 marlas.
To ease financial pressure, recipients will benefit from a three-month grace period before commencing loan repayments. Repayments will then be spread over seven years, with a maximum monthly installment of Rs. 14,000.
Affordable Housing Goal
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the scheme’s affordability, emphasizing that the monthly installment is designed to be lower than average rent costs. This approach aims to make homeownership more attainable and financially manageable for families.
Additional Benefits
In conjunction with the housing loans, the Chief Minister announced plans for Pakistan’s largest solar program, set to launch next year. This initiative aims to eliminate electricity bills for beneficiaries, adding to the financial relief provided by the housing scheme. The integration of solar energy is intended to offer a sustainable and cost-effective solution for energy needs.
Application Process
Applications for the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme can be submitted online through the PITB portal. For assistance, a dedicated helpline (080009100) is available to support applicants. The scheme will be accessible across major cities in Punjab, ensuring widespread availability.
House Features
The houses funded by this scheme will include essential amenities such as two bedrooms, a TV lounge, a bathroom, and a “decent-sized” kitchen. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the scheme is designed to provide dignified and well-constructed homes, even for economically disadvantaged families.
Future Expansion
Maryam Nawaz expressed a commitment to expanding the scheme across Punjab within the next five years. The Chief Minister’s vision is to extend housing solutions to as many people as possible, turning the dream of homeownership into a reality for those in need.
