The UAE’s Digital Government has unveiled a comprehensive guide tailored for prospective students gearing up for the forthcoming academic year.
This guide meticulously outlines the visa and residency prerequisites, along with the procedures for securing a golden residency.
Designed to alleviate common concerns and uncertainties, the guide offers clarity on various aspects of student visa acquisition and residency rules.
Eligibility criteria for obtaining a Student Visa are delineated: foreign students can apply if sponsored either by their UAE-resident parents or the educational institution they plan to attend. Specialized student affairs offices in universities lend assistance throughout the visa application process.
Initially valid for one year, Student Visas can be extended for a similar term upon furnishing official proof of continued enrollment from a recognized UAE higher education institution.
Required documentation includes a university-issued study duration certificate and other stipulated documents as per general residence visa provisions.
Moreover, the guide underscores Family Sponsorship opportunities: financially eligible foreign university students can sponsor their families’ residence in the UAE. Parents can sponsor male students under 25, while female students can be sponsored irrespective of age.
Regarding Golden Visa eligibility, outstanding high school achievers attaining a state-level ranking of at least 95% may qualify for a five-year residency visa without the need for a guarantor. UAE university students meeting specified criteria can secure a 10-year residence visa, contingent upon their university’s classification by the Ministry of Education.
Processing timelines for student visas vary: express processing typically takes around 10 days, whereas regular processing may extend to 15-20 days. Visa validity spans 12 months and necessitates renewal for longer academic programs.
To streamline the process, it’s recommended to initiate visa procedures one to two months before the semester commences, with renewal documents submitted at least a month before visa expiry.
Work opportunities are available for international students, both on and off-campus, subject to university authorization. Those with university sponsorship can apply for part-time job permits through the UAE Labour Department.
Regarding costs, the approximate fee for a student residence permit stands at Dh2,500, exclusive of additional charges like security deposits, file opening fees, and document legalization or translation fees. An extra fee of Dh500 is applicable.
