(Web Desk Monitoring) — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the distribution of one-kilowatt solar systems to 50,000 households across Punjab.
Speaking to the public, CM Maryam highlighted that the program aims to reduce the burden of expensive electricity for underprivileged households. She has ordered the immediate start of a pilot project to evaluate its effectiveness.
In the first phase, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity, classified as protected consumers, will be eligible for the program. Each 1 KW system will include two solar panels, a battery, an inverter, and necessary wiring. The Punjab government will cover the full cost and installation of the solar systems, with a total project budget of 10 billion rupees.
Households involved in electricity theft, meter tampering, or any fraudulent activities will be excluded from the program.
Application Procedure:
Eligible customers can register by sending their bill reference number and identity card number to 8800.
The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will manage the data of customers using less than 100 units of electricity. After verification, NTC will transfer the details of eligible users to the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), which will compile final lists for the district administration.
Following the validation process, the district administration will receive the final list of eligible households for implementation. Additionally, the Department of Energy has been authorized to establish a dedicated project management unit to ensure the successful execution of the initiative.
