SWAT (Daily Point) — In 2023, Swat Valley, renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism, attracting a total of 449,000 visitors, including 4,000 foreigners from 108 different countries.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Qasim Ali Khan, also serving as the Director General of the Upper Swat Development Authority, proudly announced these statistics.

Despite facing challenges from the devastating super floods in 2002, Swat Valley has managed to sustain its allure for tourists worldwide. The year 2023 witnessed a substantial increase in tourist arrivals compared to the previous year, highlighting the enduring charm of this picturesque region.

Tourists in 2023 explored a multitude of captivating destinations within Swat, including Malam Jabba, Gabin Jabba, Kalam, Bahrain, Mahodand, Madyan, Marghuzar, and others. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that over 4,000 foreign tourists from 108 countries chose Swat as their preferred destination, with visitors originating from diverse nations such as China, Australia, Afghanistan, Germany, and the United States.

Dr. Qasim Ali emphasized the collaborative efforts of the Upper Swat Development Authority, the police, and the district administration in actively promoting tourism in the valley. Ongoing initiatives include the introduction of new tourist destinations and improvements to infrastructure and facilities to bolster the tourism sector, consequently creating employment opportunities for the local population.

The emphasis on promoting tourism in Swat aligns with a broader strategy to harness the region’s natural beauty for economic development. By positioning Swat as a tourist-friendly destination, authorities aim not only to stimulate the local economy but also to foster international connections, as evident from the diverse range of countries represented among foreign visitors.

Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Upper Swat Development Authority Board, expressed contentment with the substantial influx of tourists in Swat during the past year.
