(Daily Point) — Mahmood Khan Achakzai on Sunday stated that Pakistan’s new deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) could become ‘difficult’ following a resolution by the US House of Representatives calling for a probe into Pakistan’s elections.
In an interview on “Rubaroo with Shaukat Piracha,” Achakzai expressed that the IMF would be ‘crazy’ to proceed with the deal given the US legislature’s clear stance.
When questioned about the government’s view of this issue as an ‘internal matter,’ Achakzai remarked that it is widely known this is a ‘form 47’ government.
He proposed a three-day conference involving all political parties and the establishment to address the country’s problems. Achakzai emphasized the necessity for all forces within the country to agree on a unified plan of action to save Pakistan and called for fresh elections.
The full interview will air on Aaj News tonight at 8 pm.
On June 26, the United States House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted in favor of an impartial investigation into alleged election manipulation in Pakistan following the February 8 national polls.
Achakzai, who leads the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aayen-Pakistan—a coalition of opposition parties demanding fresh elections—criticized the situation.
The resolution, HR901, passed with a vote of 368-7, underscores the importance of public participation in the democratic process in Pakistan.
The Pakistani government has strongly reacted to the resolution, asserting that elections are an internal matter for the country.
