India unwilling to participate in Champions Trophy 2025 hosted by Pakistan

India Champions Trophy

NEW DELHI (Web Desk) — The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted preliminary dates for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025, but there are doubts over India’s participation, as reported by The News on Sunday, citing an Indian sports website.

According to a report in Sports Tak on Saturday, India is unlikely to compete in the upcoming ICC event scheduled to commence on February 19, with the final set for March 9 in Pakistan.

“While specifics of the tournament are yet to be finalized, it appears highly improbable that the Indian team will travel to Pakistan. The final decision lies with the Indian government. The Pakistan Cricket Board intends to address this issue at the ICC meeting in Sri Lanka later this month,” stated Sports Tak, quoting a source.

“The government’s decision will be decisive, pending internal confirmation. Given the ICC’s jurisdiction over the event, unilateral decisions are not within our purview. Further clarity is anticipated following the upcoming ICC meeting,” the source added.

India has not toured Pakistan since 2008, having only played a bilateral series once in 2012–13. Despite plans for the Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2023, the tournament was conducted in a hybrid format, with India’s matches, including the final, held in Sri Lanka.

The PCB has proposed Lahore for seven matches, Rawalpindi for five, and Karachi for three in its draft for the Champions Trophy 2025. According to sources within the ICC, the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is scheduled to host the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash on March 1.

“The PCB has submitted a draft for the 15-match ICC Champions Trophy, with seven matches earmarked for Lahore, three for Karachi, and five for Rawalpindi,” confirmed an ICC source.

“The tournament will kick off in Karachi, with semifinals in Karachi and Rawalpindi, culminating in the final in Lahore. All of India’s matches, including potential semifinals, are slated for Lahore,” the source elaborated.
