ISLAMABAD (Daily Point) — Islamabad police announced the suspension of five officers, including the SHO of Margalla Police Station, following a mistaken raid at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan in Islamabad. The incident occurred on Saturday when a special force conducted a raid to apprehend individuals involved in the May 9 violence and anti-state activities. However, upon realizing that they had mistakenly targeted Barrister Gohar’s residence in F/7-2 area, the police immediately withdrew.

During the raid, Barrister Gohar’s family reported mistreatment, property damage, and the confiscation of valuable items, including documents, mobile phones, and a laptop. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa expressed concern and directed the additional attorney general to investigate the matter.

In a statement, the capital police explained that the local police had gone to F-7/2 to apprehend a proclaimed offender based on an informant’s tip. Once they discovered it was Barrister Gohar’s residence, they promptly returned. The CJP instructed the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) to personally address PTI Chairman’s grievances, ensuring departmental action if any officer was found guilty.

The ICCPO appointed the DPO city as an inquiry officer to conduct a fact-finding inquiry and submit a detailed report within three days. As a result of the preliminary inquiry, five officers, including the SHO Margalla, were suspended pending further orders. The police emphasized that strict action would be taken against officials found to have violated the law.

Barrister Gohar, who was representing PTI in the Supreme Court at the time, rushed to his house upon learning of the incident. He accused masked police personnel of forcibly entering his house, handcuffing his son, and mistreating his wife and other family members. Gohar captured footage of the incident, which he later submitted to the Supreme Court. Islamabad IGP Dr Akbar Nasir clarified that it was an “ignorance-based” raid, and the police withdrew upon realizing the mistake.
